Waze on the TripperPod display

Waze Mode shows turns, distance, arrival time and Waze speed cameras right on your motorcycle's display. To make it work, you need to install a specific Waze build, prepared to talk to Super TripperPod. It only takes a few minutes.

Read this first

The Play Store Waze must be uninstalled. This erases Waze's data on the phone (favorites, history, settings). If you use an account, sign in again afterwards with your email to get your favorites back.
Android only. On iPhone, use Google Maps or the app's built-in map.
Requires Super TripperPod 4.0 or later installed from Google Play.
This Waze build is not updated by the Play Store. When a new compatible version is available, it shows up on this page.

Installation

Step by step

Uninstall the Waze that came from the Play Store

The easiest way: in Super TripperPod, open the Tripper tab, choose Waze as the navigation source and tap UNINSTALL WAZE. Confirm on the Android screen.

Or manually: Settings › Apps › Waze › Uninstall.

If Waze was never installed on this phone, skip to step 2.

Download the file from this page

Tap DOWNLOAD WAZE at the top of the page. Chrome may warn that “this type of file can harm your device”. That is the standard warning for any .apk file downloaded outside the store. Tap Download anyway (or Keep).

The download is 219 MB. Wi-Fi is recommended.

Open the file and allow the installation

Tap the download-complete notification (or open the file from the Files app › Downloads).

The first time, Android asks for permission to install unknown apps from Chrome (or from the Files app). Tap Settings, turn on Allow from this source and go back.
Tap Install and wait.
If Play Protect shows a warning, tap More details and then Install anyway. The warning appears because the app did not come from the store.

Got “App not installed”? It is almost always because the store Waze is still on the phone. Go back to step 1.

Open Waze once and set it up

Open the newly installed Waze, accept the terms and allow access to location (choose “Always” or “While using the app”). You can use it without an account or sign in with your email to bring your favorites back.

Inside, it is the same Waze as always: same map, same routes, same alerts. The only difference is that it tells Super TripperPod about the navigation.

Turn on Waze Mode in Super TripperPod

Open Super TripperPod, connect to the TripperPod as usual and, on the Tripper tab, choose Waze in the navigation selector. The card shows the live status:

If you see Incorrect Waze version, the store Waze is still installed. Repeat steps 1 to 3.

Done: open Waze and navigate

Tap OPEN WAZE on the card (or open Waze normally) and start the route. The turn, the distance and the arrival time appear on the display.
Without a route, speed cameras still show up. Waze just needs to be open: as you approach a camera, the display leaves the compass or clock and shows the alert.
Keep Waze open, even in the background: while it is closed, neither radars nor the route reach the display. You do not need to set up anything inside Waze.

Tip

You can switch apps, lock the phone or leave Waze in the background. Super TripperPod keeps receiving the navigation and updating the display.

Common problems

The card says “Incorrect Waze version”

The phone has the Play Store Waze (or an old version). Tap UNINSTALL WAZE on the card, then download and install again using the button on this page.

The card says “Waze not started”

The version is right, but Waze is closed. Tap OPEN WAZE. As soon as Waze loads the map, the card changes to “No route · reading radars”.

If it does not change, close Waze from the recent apps button and open it again. On some phones (Xiaomi, Samsung with aggressive power saving) it helps to exempt Waze and Super TripperPod in the battery settings (“unrestricted”).

“App not installed” or “Invalid package” during installation

The store Waze is still installed: uninstall it first (step 1).
The download was incomplete: delete the file in Downloads and download it again, preferably on Wi-Fi. The size must match the one shown on the button.
Low storage on the phone: free up a few gigabytes and try again.

The route shows up, but the speed camera does not

In Super TripperPod, go to Settings › Radar and check that Waze radar is on. The Radar without a set route option controls whether the alert also appears when there is no active route.

The Play Store offers to “update” Waze. What now?

Do not update from the store. Installing the Play Store Waze on top either fails or replaces the compatible build, and Waze Mode stops working. When a new compatible version exists, the download on this page is updated. Installing the new version from here on top of the current one keeps your data.

I want to go back to the regular Waze

Uninstall this Waze (from the card or via Settings › Apps) and install it again from the Play Store. Super TripperPod keeps working with Google Maps and with the built-in map.
